It looks like we can definitely not count on Opry Mills being open anytime soon. I just got word today that the mall will more likely be opening up again in Spring or Summer 2011. This is what I heard today from my boss in Cool Springs who talked to the Opry Mills VS managers. I'll probably be going to a meeting about it in a few weeks.

Well, what about doing the Zombi Walk up and down the sidewalks outside the hotel? This of course is on the assumption it is not pouring rain or insanely hot outside.

Hopefully it isn't helle-hot, seeing as it'll be the middle of fall...but the rain is very possible....

The other issue might be, since it would be more public, getting permission/a permit from the city.

Why do you need a permit from the city to have a public gathering? You're just dressed as zombies.

Personally I'd like to see the zombie walk "attack" Opryland, but I'm not sure how much trouble we'd get in.

The hotel or Opry Mills? All I know is that no one is allowed to even go inside Opry Mills except for construction workers...but the hotel would be pretty funny if it were open, lol. XD

I meany the hotel. But I just checked their website and they don't expect to reopen until Nov. 15th. So that's out, apparently.

well, I should hopefully find out today as to when Opry Mills will be reopening. I have a meeting at Green Hills with the VS Opry Mills crew.

EDIT: Just got back from the meeting. So per my DM, due to the state of the mall Opry Mills is slated to reopen in Spring 2011, however...it's not set in stone. This is what my DM was told by the mall management.

Last time I had anything to do with large gatherings, the rule of thumb was that if it was going to be over 100 people gathering you had to contact Metro Police. I don't remember if you have to have a permit beyond that though. The Zombie Walk organizer(s) may want to contact Metro to ask about this.

I second this... and no matter what we (GMX) are told, it would be wise to get it in writing.

From my understanding they may have a case but can only get $100,000. The Corps had a major problem during the flood since they had switched to an internet based warning system so the different locations could communicate during an emergency. Obviously this is not effective since phone and cable lines often go down in such situations. They've since instituted another system. Not sure if they went back to short wave radios or what.You have to get permits for marches and assemblies for for speeches and such. I'd assume the cops could take issue with such a gathering. Disturbing the peace, public nuisance, excessive noise, etc. If the cops deem that it's a problem they can break up the whole thing. Either way it's a good idea to at least look into a permit especially if you want to do it down town.
